White-faced shearwater taking off by running down on a swelling wave
@If the sea is calm, a shearwater would take off from sea by approach run with flapping. However, if a strong wind blows and white-crested waves rise, they may take off against the strong wind as floating up. If the wind is not so strong but the swelling is large, they will take off by kicking or running down on the wave as a swelling wave has come. A shearwater is the bird which has well known to change the potential energy to the kinetic energy.
